Silver Legends Itinerary
Day 1 – Hello India
Arrive in New Delhi, India. Upon arrival as you come out of immigration you will be greeted by our representative and taken to your hotel for check-in.
Depending on your arrival time, you may start a brief sightseeing tour of the New Delhi area or you may take it easy and relax in your hotel.
Day 2 – New Delhi historical sites, monuments and architecture…
Take an extensive guided sightseeing day into the cultural aspects of the New Delhi region of India
You will have the opportunity to visit the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi, the 11th century Qutab Minar, famous tombs and temples, great architecture, and authentic restaurants of India, as well as shopping at some of the famous bazaars.
Day 3: Agra & The Taj Mahal
After an early morning breakfast, proceed to Agra for your visitto the Taj Mahal.
After seeing this beautiful monument and lunch, you will visit the Agra Fort where Shah Jehan,was imprisoned in 1657 by his son and where it was said he would gaze across the Yamuna river at the Taj Mahal where his beloved Mumtaz was buried, until his death in 1666.
Day 4 – Arrival in Paro, Bhutan
You will leave for an early morning flight to Airport in Paro, Bhutan. During your flight, weather permitting you will enjoy magnificent views of the Himalayas including Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous peaks such as the sacred mountains of Bhutan – Chomolhari and Jitchu Drake.
Upon arrival in Paro, you will be greeted at the airport by our guide and driven to your hotel in Thimphu – the small, charming capital city of Bhutan. This is a one hour drive from the airport.
After lunch you will have the opportunity to visit the town of Paro and some of the monasteries and charming buildings in this town. Cap off the evening with the stroll around the quaint streets or relax in your hotel.
Day 5 & 6 – Thimphu Sightseeing
Spend the morning visiting the Traditional School of Arts and Crafts, the Folk Heritage Museum which houses the collections of typical Bhutanese farming tools, and visit the National library.
Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the valley and monastic school, up on a ridge above Thimphu. Check out Bhutan’s rare national animal – the Takin, and visit the Zilukha Nunnery.
After lunch drive to the north end of the Thimphu valley and enjoy the hike to the temple of Tango/Cheri in the wilderness.
After dinner, stroll through the town, shop for Bhutanese souvenirs, or just relax in the comfort of your room.
Day 7 – Punakha and The Palace of Great Happiness
After an early morning breakfast you will head on towards Punakha. This is a beautiful and very enjoyable drive over the Dochula pass at 3010m. If the weather permits one can enjoy a spectacular Himalayan view of some of the highest mountains of Bhutan at a sight that stretches almost 180 degrees.
The spectacular beauty of this drive includes the Druk Wangyal Chortens (108 monuments), a wonderful spot for stopping as you walk around and take wonderful photographs of the majesty and beauty of Bhutan.
Walk around the newly built 108 stupas and continue your drive to the sub tropical valley of Punakha. The scenery of this drive changes from alpine hills to lush tropical forests and fertile agricultural valleys blessed with an abundance of fruit and rice. Before reaching the hotel, you can hike the paddy fields for Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of fertility, then drive on to your hotel.
Day 8 – Punakha
Your morning starts with a visit to the magnificent Dzong of Punakha alsoknown as the “Palace of Great Happiness” which showcases beautiful Bhutanese arts and crafts, statues and paintings, a giant statue of Buddha, meticulously detailed dragon painted ceilings, and much more.
Drive further north through the lush upper Punakha valley and hike to the hilltop temple of Khamsum Yuley Lakhang. A picnic lunch can be arranged if the weather is warm. After lunch you can go for drive/walk further in the north or could drive back to hotel and relax.
Day 9 – Punakha to Paro
After breakfast you will retrace your journey back to Paro. You can rest up for the rest of the afternoon and evening or you can visit the Nationa l Museum, the first of its kind which has a collection of items from natural history to religious paintings.
Next you can head to the beautiful Paro Dzong – a massive 17th century fortress where you will be introduced to Bhu tanese history and cultureand continue strolling downhill over an old cantilever bridge as you head back to your hotel.
Day 10 – Paro & Tigers Nest
Taktsang or the Tiger’s Nest temple is the most revered temple to the Buddhist. This magical temple clings to a vertical granite cliff 800m above the valley.
Legend has it that in the8th century, Guru Rimpochey, a tantric master flew here on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave around which the temple is built. The hike to this temple will take up most of you morning (2 Hrs uphill for an average hiker).
In the afternoon, if time permits visit the 1200 year old Kyichu Lhakhang Temple, participate (optional) in a special Buddhist prayer ceremony to bring you good luck for the rest of the journey.
You will enjoy a farewell dinner in the town.
Day 11 – Goodbye Bhutan…
From Paro, Bhutan you will fly back to New Delhi, India. Upon arrival in New Delhi you will connect to your outbound flight back to the United States.
