Applications are invited for a three-day Climate Journalism Boot Camp to be held in the Everest region on April 22-24, 2022. The workshop aims to impart nuanced science reporting skills for evidence-backed coverage of climate stories to eight selected journalists – four from Nepal and each two from India and Bangladesh – and provide them a web-based platform to share at least two climate stories by December 2022.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicants should have 3-5 years of experience in the field of environment or climate science reporting.
- The applicants should be able to provide a letter of support from the editor of a news outlet (print, audio, audio-visual, and website) to publish their stories emerging from the boot camp.
- The applicants should be able to produce at least two climate stories after the Boot Camp.
- The participants must be able to walk several hours per day in mountainous settings while carrying some weight.
The Boot Camp is funded by the Spark Grant Initiative of the World Federation of Science Journalists and members of any science journalists’ association in the respective countries are encouraged to apply. Interested journalists from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh are required to send a short letter of motivation not exceeding 300 words describing why they want to be a part of the boot camp by Feb 28, 2022.
Travel and accommodation of the selected applicants will be covered through the Spark Grant Initiative funding. After the boot camp, participants will get a chance to work remotely with assigned mentors and participate in follow-up virtual workshops.
